Doctors Warn Children Need Measles Jab Before Holidaying In Europe
Parents are being advised to have their children immunized against measles before heading off on Family holidays. Health experts are warning parents they should get children their children immunized due to the sharp increase in measles outbreaks in Denmark, France and Germany this year. France had a reported 1,000 cases in recorded in January alone. Health experts are advising parents to ensure their children are fully inoculated with the MMR jab before setting out for a holiday in Europe. Most children have their first MMR jab when they are 13 months old, but the booster is not given until six months later. It is crucial for parents to check that their child has completed the immunization with two doses of MMR before travelling on holidays. The risk if measles is very contagious and can cause coughs, spots and fever.
Insect Bites and Stings
Family Holidays can be spoilt if someone gets stung or badly bitten. They can be incredibly itchy and cause discomfort, especially if you are in a hot climate. If anyone gets bitten or stung then invest in some anthistamine tablets or cream or a hydrocortisone cream. It is advisable to have this in your holiday first aid kit. The cream or tablets work by helping to clear up bites and relieve the itchiness. Another tip is if bitten or stung, try not to scratch it but press against it. As a preventative measure always use an insect repellent on holiday or citronella oil. Using these will not stop you from being bitten, but act as a repellent as insects are less likely to come near you as they don’t like the scent. If you have been bitten many times, or have broken skin near the affected areas, then ask a pharmacist or Dr for advice, as you don’t want a skin reaction.

Travel sickness

If you choose a tablet form, then read the instructions carefully as sometimes these tablets need to be taken well before the journey starts to get into your system. Try to avoid fizzy drinks and heavy meals before travelling. Keep the car or wherever you are as well ventilated as possible as the fresh air helps to alleviate symptoms.
